Progressive Carry
Highlighting Players Driving the Ball Forward
The Progressive Carry System tracks and rewards players who make meaningful ball-carrying plays, ensuring that their efforts to push the game forward don’t go unnoticed.
What Is a Carry?
A carry begins when a player receives the ball and moves it forward through actions like dribbling. It ends when the ball is passed, shot, or lost.
What Makes a Carry Progressive?
A carry becomes progressive if:
- It covers 10 or more yards.
- It ends in the attacking half of the field.
When these conditions are met, the player’s initial ball receipt earns a special bonus.
How Carries Work
Starting a Carry
- A carry starts the moment a player gains possession (think a solid ball receipt).
- Example: A midfielder gets the ball at midfield, ready to move it forward.
Moving the Ball
- The carry continues as the player dribbles or advances the ball further.
Ending a Carry
- A carry ends when:
- The ball is passed, shot, intercepted, or cleared.
- Or, the player loses possession (tough luck!).
Rewarding Progress
- If the carry meets the 10-yard rule and ends in the attacking half, the starting ball receipt is rewarded.
Example Breakdown
Scenario: The Progressive Carry
Event ID | Event Name | Position | Carry Index | Reward |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Ball Receipt | Midfield | 1 | Progressive! |
2 | Dribble | Advances 10 yds | 2 | |
3 | Pass | Ends in Attack | 3 |
Why It’s Progressive:
- The player moved the ball 10+ yards and ended in the attacking half. Big plays deserve big rewards!
Key Rules
1. One Carry, One Player
- A carry only involves actions by the same player. If another player intervenes (e.g., interception), the carry ends.
2. Multiple Carries Allowed
- A possession can have multiple carries, as long as each starts with a fresh ball receipt.
3. No Progress, No Reward
- Short carries (less than 10 yards) or those that don’t end in the attacking half won’t be rewarded. You’ve gotta break that defense, champ!
Why This Matters
The Progressive Carry System rewards players for their boldness on the field. By recognizing those who drive the ball into dangerous positions, we’re celebrating the unsung heroes who make the game happen.
